ARQ & Partners has a proud history in Oman through design activities carried out by Bartel Haupt, manager of ARQ & Partner, Astrid Aubry, Chief Technical Officer of ARQ & Partners and Dr. Quentin Shaw, one of the founding partners of ARQ Pty Ltd in South Africa. Mr. Haupt and Dr. Shaw first worked together in 1999 on the Third Lilongwe Water Supply Project that included the raising of Kamuzu Dam II by 5m. Wadi Dayqah dam is the largest dam in Oman and Dr. Shaw was responsible for the structural and materials design of the RCC dam, RCC specification of Wadi Dayqah dam project during construction. ARQ also aided the project contractor of Umti Dam, with contributions including all major construction method statements, plant and equipment design and specification and Hardfill mix design. ARQ was also requested by the designer and owner to simplify the dam design to accelerate the rate of construction. This goal was successfully achieved, despite the owner’s challenging requirements for an extremely high quality of finish and the original programme of 4,5 months for Hardfill placement was reduced to just 5 weeks.
